Instant Checkmate is a people-search and background-report service that gathers information from public records, criminal and court databases, contact-data providers, and social sources, then sells searchable reports. A report can surface your full name, age, past and present addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and relatives. This guide covers the free self-service opt-out and how to keep your records suppressed over time.
What Instant Checkmate publishes
Instant Checkmate does not create the data it sells — it aggregates it. Government public records supply names, addresses, and court filings; licensed commercial brokers supply phone numbers, emails, and household connections. Assembled into one report, that profile can include your legal name and aliases, age or date of birth, address history, contact details, and possible relatives and associates. The same underlying sources feed most people-search sites, which is why opting out of one broker only clears part of your exposure.
Instant Checkmate and TruthFinder both run on the PeopleConnect data platform. They still maintain separate opt-outs, so completing one does not cover the other.
Find your listing first
You need the exact address of your report before you can suppress it. Search your name on Instant Checkmate, add your city or state if there are many matches, and open the entry that is you. Copy the full page URL from your browser's address bar — the opt-out form uses that link to target the correct record. If more than one profile matches you, note each URL; you may have to submit a separate request per listing.

Open the official opt-out page
Scroll to the Instant Checkmate footer and follow the opt-out / privacy / "Do Not Sell" link to reach the self-service suppression portal.

Locate and select your record
Search your name, open the matching result, and copy its URL. Paste that URL into the opt-out form so the request removes the right listing.

Enter an email for verification
Provide an email address so the site can confirm the request. Use an alias here (see below) and submit.

Click the verification link
Instant Checkmate emails a confirmation link. Your request is not processed until you click it — check your inbox and spam folder, and confirm within the stated time window.

Save the confirmation
Keep the confirmation email or a screenshot as proof in case the listing returns or the request needs following up.
Expect suppression within a few days of confirming, occasionally up to about two weeks while cached pages clear.
Verify with an alias, not your main inbox
The opt-out requires a live email so the broker can send its verification link. If you use your primary address, you have just given a data broker a confirmed, active email tied to your name. The confirmation link works exactly the same — you simply avoid handing over a durable contact point.
Re-check on a schedule
A suppressed listing is not a permanent one. People-search sites continually rebuild profiles as new public records and third-party data match your name, so a report you removed can resurface later. Set a reminder to search Instant Checkmate — and TruthFinder — every three to six months, and repeat the opt-out whenever a new profile appears. Treat this as ongoing maintenance.
If removal stalls: CCPA / GDPR
When the self-service opt-out does not stick or a listing keeps returning, escalate with a formal privacy request. California residents can invoke the CCPA/CPRA rights to delete and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information; EU and UK residents can invoke GDPR Article 17 (erasure) and Article 21 (objection). Write to the broker's privacy contact with wording like: "Under the CCPA/CPRA (or GDPR, if applicable), I request that you delete my personal information and stop selling or sharing it. Please confirm in writing when this is complete." Include the listing URL and enough detail to identify you. Covered businesses generally must respond within a defined period — roughly 45 days under the CCPA and one month under GDPR.
